eNDOMETRIOSIS & PCOS

Endometriosis affects more than 190 million women around the world. It is a chronic disease starting as early as the first menstruation in girls. The main symptom of this disease is pelvic pain. In endometriosis, the uterine tissue grows outside the uterus, mainly in the pelvic area (e.g., around the ovaries or the fallopian tubes). The inflammatory reaction is the reason for long-term physical pain. It can also cause irregular bowel movements. Endometriosis is often underdiagnosed, as the main symptom is pain. The pain is mistaken for premenstrual syndrome or gastrointestinal disorders. But can endometriosis cause hair loss? Endometriosis can lead to hair loss due to a high estrogen production in some women. A higher estrogen level can lead to female pattern hair loss. It is also known as telogen effluvium. This condition can cause diffuse hair thinning and hair loss.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects up to 12% of women of reproductive age. It causes an excess of androgens, which are male sex hormones. This  leads to symptoms like irregular periods and weight gain. Another symptom that many people associate with PCOS is hirsutism, or irregular hair growth on the face and chin. But PCOS can also cause your hair to thin — in fact, some people with PCOS report female pattern hair loss.

During puberty, teens may experience several hair challenges such as oily hair, brittle hair, hair loss, hair thinning, and dry scalp. Increased oil production triggered by puberty hormones may make hair appear greasy and stringy. The use of harsh shampoos and styling products may also contribute to hair damage and breakage. Teens may also experience dandruff during puberty. Dandruff is a common scalp condition that causes flaky skin to appear on the scalp and hair. It can be caused by a variety of factors such as dry skin, oily skin, or a fungal infection. Hormonal changes during puberty can also contribute to the development of dandruff. To prevent dandruff, it is important to maintain good scalp hygiene and use anti-dandruff shampoos that contain ingredients like salicylic acid or ketoconazole.

MENOPAUSE & pERIMENOPAUSE

Menopause is the end of your menstrual cycles. The term is sometimes used to describe the changes you go through just before or after you stop having your period, marking the end of your reproductive years. Menopause usually happens around age 50. But some women can go through menopause early. It can be the result of surgery, like if their ovaries are removed in a hysterectomy, or damage to their ovaries, such as from chemotherapy. If it happens before age 40, for any reason, it’s called premature menopause. Most women nearing menopause will begin experiencing vasomotor symptoms (VMS). The most common is hot flashes. During a hot flash there is a sudden feeling of warmth that spreads over the upper body, often with blushing, a racing heart, and sweating. These flashes can range from mild in most women to severe in others. Hair can become dryer in menopause. We have a wide range of products and treatments to help manage this.
